New Parent Support Program (NPSP)
----------------------------------------------------------

The New Parent Support Program (NPSP) is an intensive prevention and outreach program that offers in-home visits, parenting education, support groups, and information and referral for the Marine Corps community who are expecting a child or who are parenting young children up to six years of age.  The New Parent Support Program is comprised of a team of Registered Nurses Licensed, Clinical Social Workers and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists who are experienced in new born care, infant/child development, and parent education.

Through a variety of programs such as home visits, support groups and parenting classes, the New Parent Support Program can help families adjust to having a new baby in the home, cope with stress related to deployment/post-deployment issues and/or improve parenting skills.  Even if you have been raising your family for a few years, challenges may arise as your child grows and develops.  The New Parent Support Program offers you the opportunity to express your concerns and ask questions about your baby, young children, family relationships and parenting techniques.  Contacting us is easy, just call (703) 784-4248 for more information.

What is Home Visitation?

----------------------------------------------------------

The New Parent Support Program Home Visitors are Registered Nurses, Licensed Social Workers and/or Licensed Marriage Family Therapists. The purpose of home visits is to provide individualized parenting education and support to parents of young children up to age six and to help parents increase their parenting skills so that they are successful parenting their children throughout each stage of development. Home visits take place in the family’s home. The frequency of the visits range from once a week to once a month depending on your family’s needs and interests.

Home Visitors provide education on a variety of topics to include, but not limited to: age appropriate discipline, developmental screenings, managing sibling rivalry, effective communication with your children, stress management, toilet training, nutrition, Sudden Infant Death Syndrome and deployment issues.

Some people receive parenting education, while others request support and encouragement regarding the challenges of parenting.
