A number of prevention and educational workshops and briefings are available through Counseling Services, Family Advocacy Program (FAP) office, 1st floor, South Side, Little Hall, 2034 Barnett Ave, 703.784.2570.

Pre-registration is encouraged; however, it is not required. For additional information, contact the Family Advocacy Program (FAP) at 703.784.2570/2625.

We offer the following workshops and briefings:

  • Stress Management: Little Hall, 2034 Barnett Ave. This workshop focuses on identifying the sources of stress, emotional and physical responses, and developing coping techniques.
  • Anger Management: Little Hall, 2034 Barnett Ave. This two-hour workshop seeks to identify sources of anger and presents strategies for managing anger in healthy ways.
  • Relationships and Communications Workshop: Little Hall, 2034 Barnett Ave. Participants learn practical skills for maintaining successful relationships. Communication techniques, and problem solving are just a few of the topics discussed in the two-hour workshop.
  • Domestic Violence Men's Group
    Wednesdays: 1300-1500
    . Recommended for men with anger problems that impact their relationships and may have brought about court involvement or other serious consequences. The program encourages participants to take responsibility for their actions, and focuses on confronting denial and blaming behavior. Clients must be referred to this group by a Case Manager or Command.

The classes are normally field in Little Hall, Classroom #2, but may be subject to change. Please note:  All classes occurring on holidays will be rescheduled; call for alternate dates. Classes are open to all service members, their family members and DoD civilians.

Any workshop or briefing can be tailored to meet your needs. Briefings and workshops are available to Commands upon request. Classes are open to all service members, their family members and DoD civilian.

 
Unit/Professional Training

FAP currently provides the following Unit/Professional training:

Family Advocacy Program Overview
Annual training that introduces and refreshes unit personnel of FAP services, the dynamics of adult/child abuse, and ways to prevent family violence. This training addresses the role of the Family Advocacy Program, Victim Advocacy, and Case Management. Also provides a brief overview of the CRC process, FAP special events, and addresses the importance of reporting family/sexual violence.

Child Abuse Identification & Reporting Options
This required training is provided to all new personnel who will be working with children on Quantico Marine Corps Base. This training covers signs and symptoms of abuse and also where and how to report suspected incidents. This training is also provided as a refresher course every 90 days to the child development center workers and in home care providers.

Suicide Prevention Briefing: Available upon request.
Annual training that emphasizes the importance of early identification and intervention of problems that detract from personal and unit readiness. Additionally, this program emphasizes the importance of being a first responder and utilizes the memory tools AID LIFE and FRIEND.
